Origin and history
The building at 3 rue Ozenne in Toulouse is a hybrid building, mixing a neo-Gothic structure from the late 19th or early 20th century to a remarkable 18th century interior. Since 1914 it has been home to a pharmacy whose interior design, designed in 1772, has been preserved despite several moves. This original decor, consisting of woodwork in marquetry (pierce, lemon, mahogany, ebony), salient cornices and drawers, reflects the craftsmanship except for the apothecaries of the period. The medallions painted above the egg-eyes, made by painter F. Dujon, illustrate medical scenes, adding an artistic and didactic dimension to the ensemble.
The street façade and the roof of the building have been listed in the Historic Monuments since 1993, while the interior decoration of the pharmacy was classified in 1995 for its exceptional character. This classification specifically protects 18th century woodwork, painted panels and carved garlands, rare witnesses to French pharmaceutical history. The building, though transformed into an exterior, thus preserves a tangible memory of the medical and artisanal practices of the Enlightenment, while being part of the Toulouse architectural landscape of the early twentieth century.
The exact address, 3 rue Théodore Ozenne, corresponds to a central sector of Toulouse, in the department of Haute-Garonne (Occitanie region). The location, noted as "a priori satisfactory" (level 6/10), makes it possible to identify the building in a neighborhood probably marked by commercial and artisanal activity, typical of the southern cities at these times. No information is available on the current accessibility of the site (visits, rentals, etc.), or on any architects or masters other than the painter F. Dujon, mentioned for his work on canvases.
