Origin and history
This Puy-en-Velay building, classified as a Historic Monument, is distinguished by its door and its wooden staircase ramp, typical of the Louis XIII style. The door, intact, presents a frame of protruding stones forming a full hanger, decorated with carpentry with rectangular and diamond panels, popular motifs in the mid-17th century. These elements illustrate the local craftsmanship and decorative trends of the period.
The staircase ramp, characteristic of the Puy houses of this period, bears witness to the techniques of construction in vogue. Although interior changes have erased part of the original woodwork and haze, these remains offer an overview of bourgeois domestic architecture under Louis XIII. The facade, restored in a clumsy manner, lost some of its authenticity.
The building, located at 7 Seguret Street, saw its entrance door (including a carpentry) protected by a registration order in 1949. This ranking highlights the heritage importance of these elements, which are rare examples of 17th century urban habitat in the region.
