Origin and history
This building, located in Issoudun, mainly dating from the 15th century, features architecture typical of medieval urban houses. It consists of two buildings with sharp gables and roofs, connected by an unworked staircase turret, added or modified at the end of the 15th century. The entrance door to this turret, adorned with a garble in a braid decorated with sleek cabbages and pinacles, illustrates the flamboyant late Gothic style, typical of this period.
In the 13th and 14th centuries, this house would have served as an apothecary to the Templars, although this initial function is not attested by direct sources for this specific period. The visible piercings on the facades, made between the 15th and 20th centuries, bear witness to the many changes the building has undergone over the centuries. Only the turret gate, which has been listed as a Historic Monument since 1987, retains specific heritage protection.
The current address, 46-48 rue de Montélimar (or 19 according to GPS sources), places this monument in the historic center of Issoudun, in the department of Indre.
