Origin and history
The building at 14 rue François-Gilet and 9 rue Pierre-Bérard in Saint-Étienne is a U-plan building built in 1902, during the first quarter of the 20th century. Its architecture is distinguished by a rounded angle without span, decorated with decorative brick and ceramic motifs, crowned by a sculptural damping. These materials, brick and ceramic, are also used to highlight openings, reflecting the influence of the Art Nouveau and eclectic currents of the time.
The building was registered in the Historical Monuments by order of 4 July 2007, specifically protecting its facades and roofs (cadastre EM 30, lots 1 to 12). Its architect, Joany Morin, marked the stéphanois landscape by this building, combining urban functionality and decorative aesthetics. The location, between François-Gilet and Pierre-Bérard streets, places the building in a central area of Saint-Étienne, emblematic of the Loire and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
The available data indicate a "passable" location accuracy (note 5/10), with approximate GPS coordinates pointing to 9 rue Pierre Berard. The building illustrates the architectural dynamism of Saint-Étienne at the turn of the 20th century, when the city, then in full industrial growth, saw the expansion of constructions combining technical innovation and artistic ornaments. No information is provided on its current use (visit, rental, etc.).
