Joany Morin - Architect Designer of the building in 1904.

Origin and history

This corner building, built in 1904 in Saint-Étienne, is organized around an inner courtyard and features a three-storey square main façade on raised ground floor. Its most striking element is a metal bowl-window decorated with Art Nouveau ironwork, style taken from the guardrails of the windows. Each floor serves two pallet doors leading to separate apartments, although only those on the third floor have kept their original volume.

The structure reflects an architectural design typical of the time, combining urban functionality and decorative aesthetics. The bowl-window, a rare element in the region, bears witness to the influence of European artistic currents in the early twentieth century. The common areas and facade were protected by an inscription to the Historic Monuments in 2007, highlighting their heritage value.

The architect Joany Morin, responsible for the project, has integrated modern materials such as metal while respecting the codes of the Stéphanois bourgeois habitat. The location at the corner of Rue Saint-Jean and Avenue de la Libération, in a rapidly expanding industrial area, reinforces its historical interest. Today, the building remains a preserved example of the residential architecture of the Belle Époque in the Loire.
