Origin and history
The building, known as Villa Renaudin, was built in 1902 in Nancy for Madame Georges Ambiel. Designed by architect Lucien Benz, it features a carved decoration by Auguste Vautrin, whose names and date appear on the façade. The glass windows, now missing, were the work of glass painter Jacques Gruber, a major figure of the École de Nancy.
The villa was acquired in 1906 by Lorrain painter Alfred Renaudin and illustrates the artistic dynamism of the region at the beginning of the 20th century. The painted decoration of the stairwell has disappeared, and only the facades and roofs, protected since 1981, remain as evidence of this Art Nouveau heritage.
The location of the building at 49-51 Pasteur Street reflects the bourgeois urbanization of Nancy at that time. Its inscription in the Historical Monuments underlines its importance in the local architectural heritage, marked by the alliance of decorative arts and architecture.
