Facade and roof: inscription by decree of 25 February 1950

Origin and history

The building at 3 rue Girardet in Nancy is a monument representative of 18th century civil architecture. This building, whose location is estimated as fair (level 5/10), illustrates the urban style of Lorraine under the Ancien Régime. Its facade and roof, protected by a decree of 25 February 1950, bear witness to the constructive techniques and aesthetic tastes of this period, marked by the growth of cities and a rising bourgeoisie.

In the 18th century, Nancy was a dynamic city in the Lorraine region, integrated into the Duchy and then into the Kingdom of France. The buildings of that time often served as residences for wealthy families or prosperous artisans, reflecting a well-established social hierarchy. This type of building was involved in the structuring of neighbourhoods, combining residential and sometimes commercial functions.

Their preservation today offers an overview of urban life and architectural practices of the modern era.
