Origin and history
This 16th century building, located in Rochefort-en-Terre in Brittany, is part of an ancient architectural complex between the church and the halls. Although some assumed that they were outbuildings of the old castle, it is more likely that it was used as housing for the canons of the local college. Its windows, decorated with accolades with hooks and florets, bear witness to a late Gothic style typical of the region.
Ranked Historic Monument in 1937 for its facade and roof, this building illustrates the late medieval urbanism of Rochefort-en-Terre. Its precise location at 6 Rue Notre-Dame de la Tronchaye and its inscription in the title of Historic Monuments underline its heritage importance. Available sources, such as Monumentum, confirm its role in the historical and religious fabric of the commune.
The accuracy of its location is considered satisfactory a priori (note 6/10), although details of its exact use or occupants remain partial. The protected elements, namely the façade and roof, date from the decree of inscription of 11 December 1937, officially marking its heritage recognition.
