Facade and roof on the rue de la Ferronnerie (Box 01: 02 AO 80): inscription by order of 22 July 1980
Origin and history
This Parisian building, built in the 3rd quarter of the 17th century, is distinguished by its historical location: it occupies the former site of the Innocent Cemetery, one of the largest and oldest cemeteries in Paris, abandoned at the end of the 18th century. The building, typical of the civil architecture of the time, reflects the urban transformations of the neighbourhood after the closure of the cemetery, marked by sanitation and redevelopment projects.
The partial protection of the building, with the inscription of its facade and roof on the Rue de la Ferronnerie by order of 22 July 1980, underscores its heritage interest. This measure aims to preserve the architectural elements representative of the 17th century style, in a district where traces of this period are rare due to the Haussmannian upheavals. The official address, 4 rue de la Ferronnerie and 5-7 rue des Innocents, anchored the monument in a neighborhood full of history, between commerce and urban memory.
No information is available on the original owners, architects or specific uses of the building prior to its protection. Sources mention only its historical monument status and approximate location, assessed as "passable" (note 5/10) in the geographic databases. The Creative Commons license of Associated Photo (Fabio Gargano) indicates a contemporary documentary interest in this unknown heritage.
