Origin and history
The building of 19 rue Danielle-Casanova, in the 1st arrondissement of Paris, was built in the early eighteenth century, probably by architect Jules Hardouin-Mansart. This building illustrates the civil architecture of the period, with shops on the ground floor, a cochère door surmounted by a balcony, and a sober facade. Its Empire-style staircase, leading to the first floor, is a remarkable element, complemented by richly decorated living rooms: chandeliers, friezes, adorned cornices, Regency ice trommels and a neo-classical niche.
The facades, roofs, stairways and living rooms on the first floor were inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 26 April 1994. The accuracy of the location is considered fair (note 5/10), and the building now belongs to a private company. Although its attribution to Hardouin-Mansart remains hypothetical, the architectural style and interior details reflect the influences of the 17th and 18th centuries, blending classicism and later ornaments.
The Mérimée base lists this building under the code Insee 75101, confirming its anchoring in the Parisian heritage. The photographs available, such as that of Mbzt under Creative Commons license, allow you to appreciate its external and interior characteristics. The building thus bears witness to the evolution of architectural tastes, from the reign of Louis XIV to the Empire, while maintaining a remarkable stylistic unit.
