Origin and history

The building at 28 rue du Bourg-Tibourg, in the 4th arrondissement of Paris, dates from the first half of the 17th century. This building, typical of the Parisian civil architecture of the period, is distinguished by its large staircase with balusters, a remarkable element which justified its inscription in title of the Historical Monuments.

The official protection of this building was established by an order of 19 May 1982, specifically concerning the cage of the large staircase and its balusters. This type of architectural element illustrates the evolution of construction techniques and the taste for ornamentation during the reign of Louis XIII, a period marked by urban renewal in Paris.

The location of the building in the historic Marais district reinforces its heritage interest. This sector, then in full transformation, welcomed a rising bourgeoisie and artisans, reflecting the social and economic dynamics of the capital in the seventeenth century. The building is thus part of a rich urban fabric, where housing, commerce and power mix.
