Origin and history

The building of 79 avenue des Champs-Élysées, built in 1928 in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, is an emblematic building of the 2nd quarter of the 20th century. Designed by architects P. Royer, L. Brandon and Constant Lefranc, it is distinguished by its reinforced concrete structure covered with false marble. This commercial building has six floors and a gallery on the ground floor, the only one on the south side of the Champs Elysées, making it a remarkable place in this prestigious area.

The most notable element of this building is its monumental staircase, protected by a registration order under the Historic Monuments since 21 March 1991. This staircase, located at the bottom of the gallery, is known for its refinement and architectural originality, illustrating the expertise of the architects of the time. Although the building belongs to a private company, this protection highlights its heritage importance in the Parisian landscape.

The construction of this building is part of a period of architectural modernization in Paris, where reinforced concrete and innovative materials such as false marble were increasingly used. The Champs-Élysées, already a symbol of prestige and modernity, welcomed ambitious projects combining commercial and aesthetic functionality. This building is a representative example, combining utility and elegance in an urbanly transformed neighbourhood.
