Origin and history

The building near the Porte is a monument located in Avignon, in the department of Vaucluse, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. This building, whose official address is Boulevard Saint-Lazare, has been listed as Historic Monuments since February 1, 1934, with protection specifically for its façade and roof. Although its exact location is approximate (noted 5/10 in precision), it remains an example of Avignonese urban architecture.

Buildings of this type, often built on the outskirts of city walls or historic gates, reflect changing residential and urban needs. In Avignon, a city marked by its medieval past and its religious role (especially with the presence of the popes in the 14th century), these buildings testify to the gradual densification of the intramural space.
