Origin and history
The building, located at 4-6 rue des Petits-Gras in Clermont-Ferrand, is a hotel of the early eighteenth century, typical of the civil architecture of the period. Its street façade, composed of three floors and an attic, is distinguished by a gate in full hanger with vantals carved with decorative motifs, surmounted by a tympanum decorated with intersecting palms. The windows on the first floor are decorated with wrought iron balustrades, symmetrical and finely worked, reflecting the elegance of the Louis XV style.
The interior reveals a square staircase cage, characteristic of the 18th century art, with arches in faux and a wrought iron ramp with curved and symmetrical patterns. Panels on the ramp alternate between central, volute compositions and stylized florets, while the ceiling of the cage is adorned with a mulled box of acanthe leaves and garlands. These elements, classified or listed in the Historical Monuments between 1987 and 1989, illustrate the refinement of Clermontian civil architecture under the Old Regime.
The monument is specifically protected on the façade with its vants (registered in 1987) and the stairwell with its ramp (classified in 1989), highlighting their exceptional heritage value. The exact address, 4-6 rue des Petits-Gras, and its Insee code (63113) confirm its anchoring in the historic center of Clermont-Ferrand, in the department of Puy-de-Dôme.
