Origin and history
The building, located at 65 rue de Nièvre, at the corner of Rue Maubert in Nevers, is a building dating from the 4th quarter of the 16th century. This building, typical of late Renaissance civil architecture, is distinguished by its courtyard façade, protected by a decree of inscription under the Historical Monuments since 29 April 1946. Its location, in the historic centre of Nevers, reflects the town's urban planning at that time, marked by architectural development linked to its role as a prosperous city under the Old Regime.
The protection of this building is part of a desire to preserve the built heritage of Burgundy-Franche-Comté, region where the constructions of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries testify to the influence of Renaissance and classical styles. Although the sources do not specify its original use, this type of building was often intended for residential or craft functions, integrated into the dense urban fabric of cities such as Nevers. The location, noted as satisfactory a priori (level 6/10), allows to identify the building in the historical district, near the main axes of the city.
No information is available on the owners, sponsors or specific events related to this building. Its classification as Historic Monument, however, underscores its heritage interest, especially for its facade, an architectural element representative of its time. Current data do not mention openings to the public, guided tours or contemporary reassignment (guest rooms, reception hall, etc.).
