Origin and history
The building in Saint-Arnoult-en-Yvelines is a historic monument whose street façade, carved stone, bears witness to a neat architecture. A cartridge above the covered passage bears the inscription "BATI EN 1526, RENOUVELE EN 1770", confirming its Renaissance origins and subsequent transformations. The decorative elements of the 1st floor, such as the windows, the cochère door, the bandages and the pilasters, date from the beginning of the 16th century, while the garlands and the cochère door are characteristic of the late 18th century. The rear façade, remodeled, had the date of 1864, and a piecemeal modification was attested in 1875.
The façade of this building, classified as Historic Monument by decree of November 6, 1929, illustrates the architectural evolution between Renaissance and modern times. Property of a wine merchant since 1855, the building combines sculptural details of the 16th and 18th centuries, reflecting its mixed use (housing and commerce). The successive transformations, notably in 1770 and 1864, underline its adaptation to the functional and aesthetic needs of the eras traversed.
The historic address, 9 rue de Paris (now rue Charles-de-Gaulle), and the cadastral traces confirm its anchoring in the urban fabric of Saint-Arnoult-en-Yvelines. Although the GPS location is approximate (accuracy noted 5/10), sources such as Monumentum and cadastral archives document its heritage importance. The facade, the only protected part, embodies an architectural heritage preserved despite subsequent modifications.
