Rebuilder and owner of the building in 1913.
Origin and history
The building on the south side of the Palmist Square in Cayenne was rebuilt in 1913 by Doctor Luiz-de-Gonzago Pacheco, surgeon-dentist. The latter established his professional office there and resided there until his appointment in 1931 as the first consul of Brazil in Guyana. The house, typical of Creole architecture, is distinguished by its wooden structure, brick masonry and tile roof. It includes a floor and a large gallery on the ground floor.
Today, the building suffers from damage caused by termites, endangering its conservation. Despite this, Dr. Pacheco's dental practice remains partially intact, with the exception of the chair. The building, including the court floor and the related buildings, was listed in the Historical Monuments by order of 31 August 1995. Its official address is the 14 avenue du Général-de-Gaulle, in the city centre of Cayenne.
The location of the building, assessed as "passible" (note 5/10), reflects the limitations of available geographic data. This building illustrates Guyana's early twentieth century architectural heritage, marked by Creole influences and a history linked to the diplomatic exchanges between France and Brazil. The house also bears witness to the professional practices of the time, with a dental practice integrated into a private home.
