Origin and history

The buildings at 13-14 rue des Pèlerins in Obernai, Lower Rhine, are a remarkable architectural complex. These buildings, partly built in the 12th and 16th centuries, combine Romanesque remains inside and outside a Renaissance house. Their heritage value led to their designation as historic monuments in 1993, thus protecting key elements such as the Romanesque remains and the Renaissance part of number 14.

The official inscription, by order of 18 November 1993, specifically covers the Romanesque remains of the two buildings and the Renaissance house raised on the northern part of number 14. These buildings are located precisely at 13-14 rue des Pèlerins, in the commune of Obernai, identified by Insee code 67348. Their geographical location, although noted as "passible" (level 5/10) in the sources, remains a point of interest for studies on Alsatian architecture.

Obernai, the town of Lower Rhine in the Grand East region, is known for its medieval and reborn heritage. The buildings on Rue des Pèlerins illustrate this historical duality, reflecting both the 12th century Romanesque heritage and the architectural influences of the Renaissance in the 16th century. Their preservation contributes to the richness of the local heritage, supplemented by other historical monuments of the city and the department, as evidenced by the dedicated lists available from the sources consulted.
