Origin and history

This 17th-century property complex, located in Concarneau, is a typical example of the home of a Breton shipowner at the end of this century. The buildings are structured around a rectangular courtyard, where a square well with a prominent margin marks the centre. The architecture reflects the social status of its owner, with a spatial organization adapted to the maritime and commercial activities of the time.

The west wing preserves an 18th century living room, with woodwork carved in "bee nest" panels and doors decorated with ironwork. These decorative elements bear witness to the influence of popular artistic styles among local elites, while highlighting the prosperity of maritime commerce. The monument, classified for its facades and roofs in 1971, thus embodies the heritage of the concarnois shipowners.

The precise location at 5-7 Tourville Street confirms its anchoring in the historic urban fabric of Concarneau. The accuracy of the location (noted 8/10) and the heritage protections attest to its importance for the understanding of the architectural and social history of maritime Brittany.
