Origin and history

The buildings at 52, 52bis and 52ter on Avenue de Saint-Cloud in Versailles constitute a remarkable architectural ensemble in neo-classical style. Their construction began around 1778 according to the plans of architect Duval, marking the transition between the 18th and 19th centuries. These buildings illustrate the evolution of the aesthetic tastes of the era, combining classical rigour and structural innovations.

In the early 19th century, after 1824, redevelopments were carried out, probably adapting spaces to new uses or changes in urban norms. These changes demonstrate the sustainability of these buildings, which have adapted to the changing needs of the city of Versailles, while maintaining their historic character.

The facades and roofs of these buildings were partially protected by registration orders to the Historic Monuments, in 1955 for number 52, and in 1995 for numbers 52bis and 52ter. These protections highlight their heritage value, especially for their representation of neo-classical architecture and their integration into the urban landscape of the Versailles.
