Origin and history
The Italian House, classified as a Historic Monument in 1996, is distinguished by its multiple construction periods. Its facade on Rue Étienne-Poulet and its turret date from the early 16th century, reflecting late medieval architecture. The Italian-style loggia, added at the end of the 16th century, bears witness to the transalpine artistic influences that marked the region at that time.
The south facades and those of the second courtyard were built in the mid-17th century, illustrating the evolution of tastes towards a more sober classicism. The building, partly communal and private property, thus combines Renaissance and classical elements. Its official address, 403-411 rue Nationale and 303-307 rue Étienne-Poulet, place the monument in the heart of the historic urban fabric of Villefranche-sur-Saône.
Localization, noted as "a priori satisfactory" (level 6/10), and photographs licensed under Creative Commons (credit: Nesme) document its current state. Although the sources do not specify its contemporary use (visits, rental, guest rooms), its classification in 1996 underlines its heritage importance for the commune and the region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
