Origin and history

The Jean-Lafittau arenas are located in the commune of Amou, in the Landes department, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Built in 1954 according to the plans of architect Jean Prunetti, they replace older wooden arenas. These new arenas, of oval shape and reinforced concrete painted in white, are dedicated to the Landes race shows, a local Tauromachi tradition. They are not covered and offer a capacity of 1800 places.

The location of the arenas, on the Place de la Técouère on the edge of the Luy de Béarn, makes it a central place in the urban landscape of Amou. Their functional architecture and their role in local cultural life make it a monument to the Dutch traditions of the 20th century.

In 2007, certain elements of the arenas, including the library, stairs and napkin baths, were listed as historical monuments by order of 25 April. This recognition underscores their architectural and cultural heritage value in the context of regional Taurine Games.
