Origin and history
The chapel of the Trinity is located at the place called "La Trinité", in Cléguerec, in the department of Morbihan in Brittany. Built mainly in the 16th century with additions to the 2nd quarter of the 18th century, it is characterized by a granite structure and a form of Latin cross. Its classic portal, surmounted by a triangular pediment and a short arrow bell tower, reflects an architectural influence combining Renaissance styles and flamboyant. Inside, the stand of the painted wooden jube features floral motifs and the twelve Apostles, while the 16th century altarpiece and a statue of St.Barthélémy are particularly remarkable.
The chapel and its adjacent fountain, decorated with a calvary representing Christ between the Virgin and Saint John, were inscribed in historical monuments on 17 September 1973. The fountain, surrounded by a square basin, has a monumental gable housing a statuette of the Holy Trinity. The facades of the chapel feature decorative elements such as carved shells and sandstones historiated in the choir, testimonies of a rich artistic and religious heritage.
The building, owned by the municipality, illustrates the importance of Breton chapels in local life, serving both as a place of worship and as a community gathering. Its architecture and interior decorations, such as the glazed vault and the carved beam of glory, highlight the artisanal know-how of the 16th and 18th centuries, while reflecting the beliefs and traditions of the era.
