Origin and history
The church Saint-Martial de Jouillat, located in the Creuse department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, is a religious building built mainly in the 12th century, with significant additions in the 13th century. It is distinguished by its Romanesque apse adorned with columns and arches, as well as by a vaulted nave added in the thirteenth century. The portal, also dated from the 13th century, bears witness to the architectural evolution of the period.
The church was listed as historic monuments in 1932, recognizing its heritage value. Under the 19th century paintings, historied frescoes from the 14th century were discovered, enriching his artistic heritage.
Medieval paintings, located in the choir and on the third span of the nave, illustrate the cultural and religious importance of this place throughout the centuries.
