Origin and history
The church of Saint-Martin du Pas is a Catholic church located in the town of Le Pas, Mayenne, in the region of Pays de la Loire. It was built to replace an earlier building, part of which dates back to 1636, as indicated by an inscription on the door of the old church. This current place of worship, designed by architect Eugene Hawke, famous for also drawing the Basilica of Our Lady of Pontmain, was blessed on 28 June 1890.
The church bells, named Renée and Magdelaine, come from the old church. Founded around 1759, they were blessed on October 8, 1787 and were relocated to the new building. These bells, classified as objects since 1942, constitute a notable heritage element of the church.
The church of Saint Martin du Pas is part of the religious and architectural landscape of Mayenne, reflecting the stylistic evolutions and spiritual needs of the local community over the centuries. Its history is linked to that of the region, marked by an established Catholic tradition and preserved architectural heritage.
