Origin and history
The church Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens de Lastours is a Romanesque religious building located in Rilhac-Lastours, Haute-Vienne (New Aquitaine). Built in the 11th century, it is distinguished by its sober architecture, with a unique nave of rectangular plan and an apse with cut strips forming a pentagonal sanctuary. Two lateral chapels, later added, are attached to the north and south walls. The octagonal bell tower, located at the western end of the nave, is a remarkable architectural element.
Founded near the castle of Lastours, the church was historically linked to the castle, sheltering the cure of the castle as a branch. The nave, vaulted with a low torchi ceiling, preserves capitals with ground roofs of a three-quarter round, typical 11th century motif. These stylistic details, as well as the overall structure, suggest partial preservation of its original state.
The building was listed as historic monuments on May 7, 1982, recognizing its heritage value. Owned by the municipality of Rilhac-Lastours, the church illustrates limousine Romanesque religious architecture, marked by functional simplicity and integration into the local landscape. Available sources (Wikipedia, Monumentum) highlight its importance in the religious and architectural heritage of Upper Vienna.
