Two dolmens in Kerlagade gallery (cad. G 962): by order of 30 June 1928
Origin and history
The two Kerlagade gallery dolmens, located in Carnac, Morbihan, date from Neolithic. These megalithic monuments, typical of the region, have been classified as Historical Monuments since 1928. Their architecture makes them collective burials, characteristic of the prehistoric societies of Brittany.
These dolmens illustrate funeral practices and beliefs of neolithic communities. Their construction reflects a complex social organization, capable of mobilizing resources to build such buildings. At that time, the region was marked by nascent agricultural activity and gradual sedentarization.
The classification of the dolmens by decree of 30 June 1928 underlines their heritage importance. Their location in Carnac, a site rich in megalithic remains, reinforces their historical value. Available data are mainly from Monumentum and the Merimée archives.
