Origin and history
The church Saint-Pierre de Grandval, located in the Puy-de-Dôme department in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, is a Catholic religious building built in the 4th quarter of the 15th century. It perfectly illustrates the Gothic style of this period, with a homogeneous structure unchanged since its construction. Its architecture, typical of the deliveradoise school, includes a square bell tower over a span to the west, an enlarged nave of three spans, and a polygonal choir. The lateral chapels and the bell tower's groined bays, with slightly broken arches or in the middle of the hangar, testify to the technical mastery of the builders of the time.
Classified as a Historic Monument by order of 9 October 1969, the church of Saint-Pierre is distinguished by its exceptional state of conservation, without addition or modification after its construction. The western bell tower, pierced by chamfered groves, and the nave opening on side chapels reflect the aesthetic and functional cannons of the Auvergnes rural churches of the late Middle Ages. Owned by the commune of Grandval, this building remains a major architectural testimony of the region, associated with local religious and community life for over five centuries.
The location of the church at 168 Route du Bourg in Grandval (code INSEE 63174), in a department marked by a dense religious heritage, highlights its historical role in the cultural landscape of Puy-de-Dôme. Its classification among the historical monuments of the department attests to its heritage value, both for its architecture and for its structural integrity. Available sources (Wikipedia, Monumentum) confirm its importance as a representative example of late Gothic in Auvergne, not to mention sponsors or specific events related to its construction.
