Origin and history

The church of Notre-Dame-du-Rosaire came into being in 1874, when the first commission for the erection of a chapel in Parc-Saint-Maur was formed. This project is part of a national and local anti-clerical context, making administrative procedures difficult. In 1885, the East Railway Company signed a promise of sale for two lands for the construction of the church and a presbytery. Thanks to public subscriptions, the work began in 1886, with the laying of the first stone in June of the same year. The chapel finally opened in the spring of 1896, after a decree signed by Felix Faure in January 1896.

The name Notre-Dame-du-Rosaire is inspired by the Marian devotion and the encyclicals of Pope Leo XIII on the Rosary, published between 1883 and 1896. At its opening, the chapel still depends on the parish of Saint-Nicolas de Saint-Maur, just like the chapels of Saint-Hilaire and Adamville. In 1899, a petition was launched to request its transformation into a parish church, but the municipality opposed it. It was only after the law of separation of the Churches and the State in 1905 that Cardinal Richard divided the parish of Saint-Maur into four, allowing Notre-Dame-du-Rosaire to become an independent parish church on 22 June 1907.

In the 20th century, the church underwent several major changes. In 1927, a new bell was baptized by Cardinal Dubois, and spans and vaults were blessed. In 1967, a new parish centre was built and inaugurated the following year. The 1990s saw a complete renovation of the interior, including restoration of the choir, a workout, and installation of new lighting and heating. In 2005, the church was officially consecrated by Bishop Daniel Labelle. Finally, in 2013, two new bells replaced the old, blessed by Bishop Michel Santier.

The church organ, brand Hammer, is blessed in November 2009 and inaugurated in January 2011 by renowned organists, including Véronique Aas du Rieux, owner of the instrument, as well as Eric Lebrun and Pierre Pinchemaille, professors at the Conservatoire de Saint-Maur-des-Fossés. This organ marks an important step in the musical and liturgical life of the parish.
