Origin and history

The church Saint-Blaise de Vinnac is a religious building located in the hamlet of Vinnac, on the town of Estaing, in the department of Aveyron (Occitanie). Built in the 12th century on the model of the chapel of Persia in Espalion, it features a polygonal bedside, a nave and a south portal in Romanesque style, enriched with bas-reliefs, historic capitals and modillons. Inside, a 12th century sandstone bas-relief representing the Virgin with the Child has been classified since 1953.

Originally, the site housed a priory, united with the parish of Estaing in 1487, then attached to the Annonciades de Rodez monastery in 1517. The church underwent major changes after a fire in 1616, including the repair of the vaults and the addition of four side chapels. These changes partially altered its original novel appearance, while preserving original architectural elements.

The building has been listed as historic monuments since 21 March 1979, recognizing its heritage value. Its location, overlooking the Lot Valley two kilometers from the village of Estaing, gives it a strategic and picturesque position, typical of medieval religious constructions in Rouergue.
