Origin and history

The Church of Saint-Léger de Moitron is a Catholic church located in the Côte-d'Or department, in the region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. Built between 1787 and 1790 by the entrepreneurs Martial de Saint-Rat and Ouvrard, it follows the plans of the architect Massol, inspired by an initial project by the expert Madin. Its porch, added in 1844, bears witness to subsequent changes in the nineteenth century.

The monument is distinguished by a rich movable heritage, including altars, altars, a pulpit to be preached, as well as works of art such as paintings, windows and statues dating from the 14th to the 19th century. Among these pieces, a Christ on the Cross and a Virgin with the Child of the 14th century are particularly notable.

Listed on the inventory of historical monuments since January 21, 1991, Saint-Léger Church illustrates the religious architecture of transition between the 18th and 19th centuries. Its protection covers the entire building, including its furniture, reflecting its heritage significance for the municipality of Moitron and the region.

Available sources, including Wikipedia and Monumentum, highlight its role in the local religious landscape, as well as the contributions of masterpieces such as Roze. The precise location of the church at 9001 Rue de l'Église makes it a central point of the village, linked to its community and spiritual history.

The historical context of its construction coincides with a period of architectural and social change in France, marked by the Revolution and its repercussions on religious buildings. The church, owned by the commune, remains a testimony of this pivotal period, combining medieval heritage and classical influences.

Finally, its inscription among the historic monuments of the Côte-d'Or reinforces its cultural value, while linking it with other similar buildings in the region, such as those of the Châtillonnais. External resources, such as the Mérimée and Clochers de France bases, provide additional information on its architecture and history.
