Origin and history
The church of Saint-Menne in Saint-Menge is a 14th-century religious building, located in the commune of Saint-Menge, in the department of Vosges (88), in the Grand Est region. This monument, whose choir has been protected by an inscription under the title of Historical Monuments since March 3, 1926, bears witness to the medieval religious architecture of Lorraine. The accuracy of its location is considered very satisfactory, and the building now belongs to the municipality.
In the 14th century parish churches like Sainte-Menne played a central role in the lives of rural communities. They served not only as a place of worship, but also as a gathering point for local decisions and social events. In the Vosges, an area marked by an agrarian and forestry economy, these buildings often reflected the influence of local lords or neighbouring abbeys, although the sources available for this church do not specify a specific sponsor.
