Origin and history

The church of Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul de Clamart, located in the Hauts-de-Seine, is a religious building whose origins date back to the 11th century, as evidenced by a bubble of 1096 confirming its membership in Saint-Martin-des-Champs Abbey between 1079 and 1106. This first oratory, mentioned in 1098, was replaced at the beginning of the 16th century by a church dedicated in 1508 by the bishop of Pamiers, then enlarged and reconsecrated in 1523 by the bishop of Paris. The present façade, sacristy and northern side portal date back to this period, while elements such as the bell melted in 1539 (classified in 1907) highlight its rich heritage.

In the 17th century, the church suffered revolutionary destruction in 1792, including the melting of bells and tins, as well as the removal of woodwork. Between 1815 and 1848, the façade was remodeled, followed by major restorations in the 19th century: elongation of the lower side (1868), partial reconstruction after the shooting of Issy in 1870, and restoration of the arrow in 1876. The Hunebelle legacy in 1904 allowed the installation of new bells, while additions (sacristy, Notre-Dame chapel) and repairs (roof of the bell tower in 1981) marked the 20th and 21st centuries.

The church, inscribed in historical monuments since 19 October 1928, illustrates a complex architectural history, mixing medieval heritage, Renaissance transformations and contemporary adaptations. Its bell tower, portals and chapels reflect the artistic and religious developments of Clamart, while anchoring the monument in local parish life. Municipal management (municipal ownership) and regular restorations demonstrate its enduring heritage importance.
