Origin and history

The Church of St.Cecile in Salra is a Romanesque religious building, now in ruins. It is located in the commune of Oreilla, in the department of the Pyrénées-Orientales. Its architecture and current state bear witness to the local medieval heritage, although little documented.

Romanesque churches, like Salra, played a central role in the life of rural communities in the Middle Ages. They served not only as a place of worship, but also as a gathering point for the inhabitants, reflecting the social and religious organization of the time. In regions such as Roussillon, these buildings were often constructed of local stone, adapted to the resources and needs of the people.
