Origin and history

The church of Sainte-Ide is a Catholic place of worship located in the hamlet of Ostrohove, in Saint-Martin-Boulogne (Pas-de-Calais). Built in 1936 at the initiative of Father Play, local parish priest, and designed by architect Pierre Drobekq, it responded to the need for a more accessible place of prayer for the inhabitants of the hamlet, far from the parish church. Its architecture mixes reinforced concrete with local stone, in a regionalist style marked by neo-Roman, medieval and even Moorish influences, reflecting the ambition of a "total art" carried by the Nef movement.

The building is distinguished by its stained glass windows signed by Henry Lhotellier and Jules Largillier, as well as by a fresco by Émile Flamant adorning the choir, representing Saint Ide, patron saint of the church. Classified as historical monuments since 10 July 2015 and labeled "Twentieth Century Heritage" in 2009, it illustrates the architectural innovation of its time, where concrete allows bold forms while integrating traditional references. Its current status as property of a cultural association guarantees its preservation.

The Sainte-Ide church also embodies a local religious and artistic heritage, linked to the industrial and social history of the Hauts-de-France in the 20th century. Its location in a peripheral area of Saint-Martin-Boulogne underscores its community role, while its inscription among historical monuments highlights its heritage value, both technical, aesthetic and spiritual.
