Church of Eybenes (Box B 505): inscription by decree of 17 December 1947
Origin and history
The church of Saint-Loup of Eybenes, located in Salignac-Eyvigues, Dordogne, is an emblematic monument of 12th century Romanesque architecture. Its simple plan, marked by a flat bedside decorated with committed columns, reflects the stylistic characteristics of the era. The bell tower, of pyramidal shape, adds a visual singularity to the building, typical of the rural religious constructions of this period.
A side chapel, added in the 16th century, bears witness to subsequent architectural and liturgical developments. The church was officially recognized as a Historic Monument by a registration order on 17 December 1947, highlighting its heritage value. Owned by the municipality, it remains anchored in the local landscape, with a geographically well documented location (accuracy noted 8/10).
Available sources, including the Mérimée and Monumentum base, confirm its address to Eybènes, a hamlet of Salignac-Eyvigues, in the Dordogne department (code Insee 24516). Although the practical information on current visits or uses is not detailed, its protected status guarantees its preservation for future generations.
