The cross of the cemetery (Box D 286): inscription by order of 8 March 2006

Origin and history

La Croix hosannière de La Chapelle-Thémer is a cross of a cemetery located in the Vendée department, in the commune of La Chapelle-Thémer. This monument, erected in the 19th century, is distinguished by its use of 14th century carved jobs, as well as 15th century tombs. These ancient elements, re-used in its construction, demonstrate a common practice of preserving historical fragments while integrating them into a new building.

The cross was listed as historic monuments on March 8, 2006, recognizing its heritage value. It is located precisely in the cemetery of the commune, at the approximate address of 1 Rue de Beauregard. This type of cross, often called "hosanner", was traditionally associated with religious processes and blessings, playing a central role in the community and spiritual life of villages.

The monument belongs to the commune of La Chapelle-Thémer and is protected as an element of the local heritage. Its location in Vendée, region of the Pays de la Loire, is part of a historical context marked by a strong presence of religious and funerary monuments, reflecting the importance of faith and traditions in the daily life of rural populations in the 19th and centuries before.
