Origin and history

The cross of Sainte-Colombe-en-Auxois is a 16th century stone historic monument. It is located in the cemetery of this village of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, in the Côte-d'Or department (code INSEE 21544). The building was classified by ministerial order on December 21, 1938, recognizing its exceptional heritage value.

This type of monumental cross, typical of the Burgundy countryside of the Renaissance, often served as a religious and funeral landmark for local communities. At that time, villages like Sainte-Colombe-en-Auxois were organized around their church and cemetery, central places of social and spiritual life.
