Croix de Montsarrac (not cadastre; public domain): registration by decree of 16 February 1929

Origin and history

The cross of Montsarrac is a banner cross located at the crossroads of Montsarrac, in Séné, Morbihan. It dates from the 16th and 17th centuries and is characterized by an octagonal barrel surmounted by a twisted knot, supporting a carved cube. The faces represent Christ on the cross surrounded by the Virgin and St John, a Pietà, St John the Baptist, and St Madeleine. The monument is crowned with a building roof decorated with angel heads and plant motifs, with a summital flagship.

The cross was listed as historical monuments on 16 February 1929. It is owned by the municipality of Séné and is located at the intersection of several roads, including the Rue de Montsarrac and the Route de la Croix. Although its ancient base has disappeared, the monument remains a remarkable example of Breton Christian architecture of this period, with carved elements in painted granite.

According to available sources, the location of the cross is estimated as "passable" (note 5/10), and its official address is referenced under the code Insee 56243, corresponding to the municipality of Séné in the department of Morbihan. The monument, not cadastre, belongs to the public domain and is not associated with a specific tourist function such as a guided tour or a rental.
