Cross of road, in stone, known as the Cross of Saint-Hubert (not cadastre; public domain): inscription by decree of 14 September 1964

Origin and history

La Croix de Saint-Hubert is a historical monument located in the commune of Landébia, in the Côtes-d'Armor department, Brittany. Dating from the 16th century, this angular cross is distinguished by its representation of a Virgin, typical of the Breton crosses of this time. It is located on the public road, specifically on CD 16, and belongs to the communal domain.

The cross was inscribed as historical monuments by an order of 14 September 1964. This classification reflects its heritage importance and artistic value, especially for its religious iconography and its characteristic architectural style of the 16th century Breton. It is referenced in the Merimée base under the category of the stone road crosses.

Like many crosses of this period in Brittany, it probably served as a spiritual landmark and a place of devotion for the inhabitants and travelers. These monuments played a central role in the religious and social life of rural communities, often marking crossroads or gathering places. Their presence reflected the importance of the Christian faith in the organization of the territory and daily practices.

Today, the cross of Saint-Hubert remains a material testimony of local history and Breton religious art. Its state of conservation and its precise location, although noted as 'a priori satisfactory' by the sources, make it an important part of the Côtes-d'Armor heritage. It is accessible to the public, although there is no specific information on guided tours or tourist facilities.
