Origin and history

Lavoir de Laneuville-sur-Meuse is an emblematic monument of the commune, located in the department of Meuse, in the Grand Est region. This type of construction, typical of French villages, was mainly used for laundry and social exchanges between the inhabitants. Washers were central to the community organization, often built near streams to facilitate access to water.

In rural areas such as the Great East, washers played an essential role in daily life in the 19th and early 20th centuries. They were convivial spaces where women met to wash laundry, exchange news and strengthen social ties. Although the exact period of construction of this lagoon is not specified, its existence reflects the importance of these infrastructures in the local heritage.
