Origin and history
The building housing this grocery store was built at the end of the 19th century, in the 1st arrondissement of Paris. Originally, the premises housed a honey trade, identifiable thanks to a remarkable carved hive, still visible today. This architectural detail reflects the importance attached to the commercial sign as an element of signage and decoration at that time.
The present front is covered with ceramic tiles dating from around 1940, adding an additional historical layer to the building. These elements, as well as the sign, were protected by a registration order under the Historic Monuments on 23 May 1984. This classification underlines the heritage value of this trade, representative of the Parisian fronts of the 19th and 20th centuries.
Located at 9 rue Pierre-Lescot, this monument illustrates the evolution of local shops in Paris, where crafts and architectural detail played a key role in the identity of the streets. The accuracy of its location is estimated as fair (note 5/10), perhaps reflecting the limitations of available archives or successive urban transformations.
