Origin and history
The Dolmen de Joncas, located in Limogne-en-Quercy in the Lot (Occitanie region), is a megalithic monument dating from the Neolithic period. It illustrates the funeral buildings typical of this period, characterized by erect stones supporting a horizontal table. This type of structure generally served as a collective burial, reflecting the beliefs and social organization of local prehistoric communities.
Ranked Historic Monument by order of 6 April 1959, the Joncas dolmen is referenced as the Dolmen known as Joncas in the Merimée base. Its location, although documented (Insee code 46173, Limogne-en-Quercy commune), is considered fair in accuracy (note 5/10). No additional information on its specific use, excavations or detailed archaeological context is available from the sources consulted.
The monument remains a material testimony of Neolithic cultural practices in Quercy.
