Origin and history
The house of La Briauderie, located in Gençay, New Aquitaine, is a noble building of the 15th and 16th centuries. This building, formerly dependent on a nearby castle, is distinguished by its small size and typical features of the period, including an oven and a dovecote (now destroyed). Inside, original tomettes and 15th century chimneys testify to its medieval and reborn history.
Ranked a Historical Monument, the house was partially protected by decree of 11 December 1969, specifically covering its street façade and the corresponding roof. Although its current use (visit, rental, accommodation) is not specified in the sources, its architecture and remains offer an overview of the local seigneurial life between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
The location of the house, at the approximate address 2 Route de Couhé à Gençay (code INSEE 86103), places this heritage in the department of Vienna, in the former region Poitou-Charentes. The available data highlight its historical interest, despite a geographical accuracy that is considered satisfactory (note 6/10) according to the sources consulted.
