Logis (Case 232 AC 44): registration by order of 3 June 1996
Origin and history
The Jobtière house, located in La Forêt-sur-Sèvre in New Aquitaine, is a historical monument dating from the 4th quarter of the 15th century. This castle was rebuilt around 1480, according to available sources. It consists of a main house and long buildings of commons organized around a central courtyard, all surrounded by ditches. A parcel of land extends to the back of the house, which occupies the north wing of the courtyard, itself girded with water moats. Access is via the south via a bridge over the ditch.
The house, rectangular, features an out-of-work facade tower with a screw staircase. An architectural peculiarity lies in the presence of a second staircase between the two main rooms, a variant of the typical plans of the 15th century house towers. The building includes a ground floor, a square floor and a high floor. The west wing of the communes consists of two enfilade buildings, completing the seigneurial assembly.
The residence of the Jobtière was registered in the Historical Monuments by order of 3 June 1996, thus recognizing its heritage value. The protected elements specifically include the home (cadastre 232 AC 44). Although the sources mention an approximate location (4 La Jobtière, 79380 La Forêt-sur-Sèvre), cartographic accuracy is considered fair (note 5/10), without further details on its accessibility or current uses (visits, rentals, etc.).
No information is available on sponsors, historic owners or major events related to this home. The sources are limited to architectural descriptions and monumental protection, without mentioning the socio-economic context of its construction or its precise role in the region during the medieval period.
The structure of the house, with its moats and commons, suggests a residential and defensive function, typical of the seigneurial residences of the late Middle Ages in Poitou-Charentes (now New Aquitaine). These sets often reflected the social status of their occupants, while meeting practical needs such as crop storage or domestic reception.
The available data do not indicate whether the site is open to the public, converted into guest rooms or used for other contemporary purposes. GPS coordinates and postal address (79380 La Forêt-sur-Sèvre) remain the only reliable geographical indications associated with the Insee code of the municipality: 79123 (Deux-Sèvres).
