Origin and history

The house of La Teillais, located in Laigné (neighborhood of Prée-d'Anjou in Mayenne), is a mansion built in 1778, during the 4th quarter of the 18th century. It embodies the residential architecture of the period, originally conceived as the home of a merchant specialized in the flax trade, a major economic activity of the region. The building is distinguished by its Gothic-style chapel and its enclosed gardens, located north and south, reflecting the social status of its successive owners.

The mansion has been listed as a Historic Monument since October 30, 1990, recognizing its heritage value. The archives mention notable occupants as early as the 17th century, such as the Chesnaye family or the Bodinier, merchants and squireers linked to local history. The site, originally referred to as Theillée or Le Teillé in ancient records, also bears witness to the toponymic evolution of Mayenne.

The Teillais brook, a tributary of Uzure, gives its name to the estate and emphasizes the geographical anchoring of the house in a rural environment marked by streams. Although the sources refer to various uses (visits, rentals), no specific information is available on its current accessibility.
