Origin and history

The house of Vasles is a 17th century castle located in the commune of Vasles, in the department of Deux-Sèvres in New Aquitaine. This rectangular monument is organized around a courtyard lined with commons. Its main façade, structured on two levels separated by a horizontal bandeau, features crucifixed windows, typical of the classical architecture of the period. The round or triangular windows, according to the facades, as well as the continuous harped apparatus of the covers, underline its sober and functional elegance.

Inside, the central screw staircase, turning left on a square plane, serves rooms of which four still retain their original chimneys. The third level, below the attic, houses a large room covered with a firm chevron frame, reflecting the constructive techniques of the seventeenth century. This house, inscribed in historical monuments since 1984, reflects the way of life of the rural elites of the time, combining relative comfort and social representation.

The inscription in the title of historical monuments, effective by order of 5 December 1984, specifically concerns the facades and roofs of the house body (cadastre H 405). This classification underscores the heritage value of the building, both for its architecture and for its state of conservation. Although the sources do not specify its current use (visit, rental, accommodation), its protected status makes it a key part of the heritage of the Deux-Sèvres and the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.
