Origin and history
Logis du Carrefour is a building located in the commune of Épineu-le-Chevreuil, Sarthe department, in the Pays de la Loire region. This monument, recently listed in the inventory of Historic Monuments by decree of 29 December 2023, includes a main house as well as an annex building used as a bakery. These elements, delimited on the communal cadastre (parcelle A n°1644), illustrate a local architecture linked to artisanal and residential activities.
In the Sarthe, houses of this type were often associated with agricultural or craft activities, as evidenced by the presence of the bakery adjacent to the main building. These buildings reflect the social and economic organization of the Sarthoese countryside, where houses and production sites coexisted. Their preservation makes it possible to understand the way of life of local people, marked by a rural economy and traditional know-how.
The location of the Carrefour Logis, although documented, remains approximate according to the available sources, with a cartographic accuracy considered poor (level 5/10).
