Origin and history
Loscelle Farm is an emblematic rural building located in the municipality of Vescours, in the department of Ain. It has been classified as a historical monument since 1944 and is distinguished in particular by its roof and chimney called "sarrazine", architectural elements protected by ministerial decree. This type of construction reflects the agricultural and vernacular heritage of the Bresse region, marked by construction techniques adapted to local resources and climate.
In the Ain region, and more broadly in Bresse, traditional farms played a central role in the economy and social life of rural communities. They served both as a place of life, agricultural production and breeding, while embodying artisanal know-how transmitted through generations. The sarrazine chimney, typical of certain regions, illustrates for example the adaptation of habitats to the needs of heating and cooking, while responding to climatic constraints.
These farms were often organised around an inner courtyard, promoting community life and collective resource management.
