Origin and history

The cross of the Cemetery of Luitré is a monumental cross located in the cemetery of Luitré, a municipality of Luitré-Dompierre since 2019, in Ille-et-Vilaine (Bretagne region). Dating from the 16th century, it embodies the typical religious architecture of this period, marked by symbolic sculptures like Christ surrounded by the Virgin and Saint John.

Classified as historical monuments by order of 20 March 1912, this cross was moved to the new cemetery. It rests on a base adorned with a bas-relief, illustrating the Breton funeral art of the Renaissance. Its protection reflects its heritage importance and artistic value.

The cross, owned by the municipality, is located precisely at 9 Rue des Croisettes, according to the data of the Merimée database. Its state of conservation and current location (estimated at 6/10) make it a key element of local heritage, accessible to the public in the cemetery.
